Budgeting becomes wonderfully simple and delightfully predictable for Australian seniors. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore every facet of the Emerald Cruises experience. You will discover exactly why this line is a brilliant choice for your next adventure. Grab a cuppa, settle in, and let us dive into the details.

Why Seniors Love This Cruise Line

Emerald Cruises has built a fiercely loyal following among mature Australian travellers. The reasons extend far beyond the beautiful ships and the stunning destinations. It is the holistic, thoughtful approach to the guest experience that truly wins hearts.

  • An Unhurried Pace: The intimate scale of the ships eliminates long queues entirely. You will never fight crowds to disembark for a shore excursion. Finding a quiet corner in the lounge is always incredibly easy.
  • Immersive Enrichment: The included EmeraldPLUS programme provides deep cultural connections. You might enjoy home-hosted coffee and cake with a local Slovakian family.19 You could witness a vibrant traditional Lion Dance on the Mekong.19
  • Active Options: The EmeraldACTIVE programme caters beautifully to sprightly seniors. You can join guided hikes through French vineyards or cycle along the Danube.20 Complimentary bicycles are carried onboard European river ships for independent exploring.20
  • Exceptional Value: The transparent pricing model is a massive drawcard. Knowing that gratuities, excursions, and mealtime drinks are covered brings great peace of mind.6
  • Solo Traveller Support: Single travellers are embraced warmly. The crew actively facilitates social connections. Hosted tables make dining alone a thing of the past.

Did You Know? The European river Star-Ships feature a magnificent feat of modern engineering. The aft of the ship houses a beautiful heated indoor swimming pool. It features a retractable glass roof for sunny afternoons. On select evenings, the pool floor mechanically rises to cover the water. The entire space magically transforms into an intimate, comfortable evening cinema! 21

Booking & Planning Essentials

Navigating the booking process is simple when you understand the seasonal rhythms. Securing your cabin at the right time unlocks tremendous value and brilliant perks.

Best Times to Book

The cruise industry operates on distinct promotional cycles. “Wave Season” is the most crucial period to understand. This massive sales event typically runs from January through March.23 During Wave Season, Emerald Cruises releases their most aggressive offers of the year. Australian travellers can often secure free or heavily discounted economy airfares.23 You might also find bonus savings of up to 30 percent off suite prices.24

Booking well in advance is highly recommended. You should aim to book 10 to 12 months prior to departure. Securing your spot early guarantees your preferred cabin category. This is especially vital if you want a dedicated Single Stateroom. Advance planners often qualify for “Super Earlybird” savings when paying their balance in full.23

Shoulder season sailings present a fantastic sweet spot for seniors. Consider travelling Europe in late April, May, September, or October. The weather during these months is generally mild and pleasant. Walking tours become much more comfortable without the intense mid-summer heat. Popular ports like Vienna and Amsterdam are significantly less crowded. Pricing for shoulder season departures is also noticeably more attractive.

Getting the Best Value

Understanding the fare inclusions ensures you get the absolute best value. Your base fare is remarkably comprehensive. It covers your accommodation, all meals, and Wi-Fi.25 It includes daily guided shore excursions and all onboard and onshore gratuities.25 Wine, beer, and soft drinks are complimentary during lunch and dinner.25

You should always weigh the pros and cons of how you book. Booking directly through the cruise line website is certainly straightforward. However, partnering with a trusted travel agent is usually the smarter move. Travel agents specializing in cruising possess invaluable industry knowledge. They often have access to exclusive, unadvertised group rates. Agents can sometimes secure extra onboard credit for your spending account. They also handle the complex logistics of coordinating flights with ship departure times. For a major international holiday, their support provides immense peace of mind.

Pre & Post Cruise Options

Extending your holiday is a brilliant way to maximise your long-haul flight. Emerald Cruises makes adding land-based extensions completely effortless. They offer carefully curated pre- and post-cruise city stays. You might spend three days exploring Paris before cruising the Seine. You could linger in Prague after finishing a Danube river cruise.26

These extended packages are fully managed by the cruise line. They include comfortable hotel accommodations in central locations. Guided city tours are built into the extension itineraries. Most importantly, all challenging logistics are handled for you. The package includes seamless transfers between the airport, the hotel, and the ship. Arriving a few days early is a wonderful strategy for seniors. It allows you to overcome jet lag before the cruise begins.

Travel Tip

Cabin selection can make or break your holiday comfort. If you are sensitive to motion on the ocean yachts, choose carefully. Book a suite located on a lower deck, right in the middle of the ship. This central pivot point experiences the least amount of movement. If mobility is a concern, consult the deck plans closely. Select a cabin located near the main elevators to reduce daily walking distances.

Dining Deep Dive

Gastronomy is taken very seriously across the entire Emerald fleet. The chefs pride themselves on delivering fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented meals.

Main Dining Options

The Reflections Restaurant is the primary dining room on the river Star-Ships.37 It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Breakfast and lunch are typically presented as lavish buffets.37 You will find fresh breads, hot options, salads, and carved meats. Dinner is an elegant, multi-course à la carte affair. You might enjoy local specialities alongside comforting international classics like grilled salmon or sirloin steak.38

The Terrace offers a fantastic alternative for daytime dining. Situated at the front of the ship, it provides light breakfasts and lunches.37 The panoramic views from The Terrace are absolutely spectacular.

On the luxury yachts, the main dining venue is La Cucina Dining.39 This stylish restaurant serves sumptuous breakfasts, lunches, and fine à la carte dinners.39 The adjoining La Cucina Terrace allows guests to dine completely alfresco under the sun.39 The Aqua Pool Café offers casual flatbreads and revitalising gelato for daytime snacking.39

Speciality dining is making an exciting debut on the newer yachts. When the Emerald Kaia launches in 2026, it will feature the Night Market Grill.40 This intimate venue will serve an Asian-style tasting menu to just eight guests per evening.40 A reservation fee will apply for this highly exclusive culinary experience.

Dietary & Health Accommodations

The culinary team works hard to accommodate special dietary requirements. Vegetarian and healthy options are always available on the standard menus.41 The chefs can easily manage low-sodium, diabetic, and low-calorie requests.41 Gluten-free diets are handled with great care and attention to cross-contamination.42

However, strict advance notice is absolutely critical. You must inform the cruise line of any severe allergies at the time of booking. Reminding the team 30 to 45 days prior to sailing is highly recommended.43 Once onboard, you should introduce yourself to the Maitre d’ to confirm your requirements.

Room service policies vary by ship and cabin category. On river ships, continental breakfast delivery is typically reserved for guests in Grand Balcony Suites or higher.15 Complimentary tea and state-of-the-art coffee machines are available in the lounges 24 hours a day.31

Senior Saver Do you need a drinks package? Wine, beer, and soft drinks are generously included with lunch and dinner.1 If you only drink during meals, you do not need a package. However, if you enjoy afternoon cocktails or evening nightcaps, a package is wise. The Premium Package costs approximately AUD $177 for a 7-night cruise.44 It covers all-day soft drinks, juices, mocktails, draft beer, and house wine.44 The Platinum Package costs approximately AUD $348 for a 7-night cruise.44 It adds house-brand spirits, cocktails, and a wider wine selection.44 Note: Ocean yachts now include all-day drinks in their standard base fare! 45

Technology & Communication

Staying connected with loved ones back in Australia is remarkably simple.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout the public spaces and cabins on all ships.51 The cruise line is actively rolling out high-speed Starlink satellite technology across the fleet.52 The standard free connection is perfectly adequate for checking emails and using messaging apps.

However, internet speeds at sea or on remote rivers will occasionally fluctuate.51 If you need to stream movies or make heavy video calls, consider an upgrade. Premium, high-speed Wi-Fi packages can be purchased onboard. These premium upgrades generally cost between AUD $20 and $30 per day, depending on the region.53

Mobile roaming charges from Australian providers are famously exorbitant. To avoid massive phone bills, switch your smartphone to “aeroplane mode” before sailing. You can then turn your Wi-Fi back on to connect to the ship’s network. The cheapest way to call home is using internet-based apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Skype.

Digital literacy support is readily available onboard. If you struggle to connect your iPad or phone, do not panic. The friendly staff at the Guest Services desk are always happy to provide technical assistance.

Before you leave home, you must complete your digital pre-cruise setup. Emerald uses an online portal called the “Trip Personaliser”.10 You must log in to enter your passport details, emergency contacts, and dietary requirements.10 Completing this ensures a smooth, contact-free embarkation process.

Health, Medical & Safety

Your health and safety are treated with the utmost importance. However, medical capabilities differ greatly depending on the style of ship you choose.

Medical Facilities & Staff

It is crucial to understand the limitations of river cruising. European and Asian river ships do not carry a doctor or a nurse onboard.29 They do not possess a medical infirmary.14 Because river ships sail so close to land, they rely entirely on local onshore medical infrastructure. In the event of a medical emergency, the ship docks at the nearest port and summons local paramedics.54 Any shoreside medical services incurred will be at your own expense.29

The luxury ocean yachts operate quite differently. Because they sail into remote coastal regions, they are equipped with a medical centre.30 A qualified doctor is available onboard the yachts to handle emergencies.55 Consultations and medications will be charged directly to your onboard account.

Medication & Mobility Policies

You must pack a sufficient supply of all prescription medications. Bring enough to last the entire duration of your holiday, plus a few extra days. Refilling Australian prescriptions in foreign pharmacies can be incredibly complicated and frustrating. Always pack your essential medications in your carry-on hand luggage, never in your checked suitcases.

Guests requiring mobility equipment must bring their own collapsible wheelchair.31 The ships cannot provide wheelchairs for daily use. Motorised mobility scooters are generally discouraged on river ships due to space constraints and steep gangways.

Insurance & Evacuation

Comprehensive travel insurance is an absolute, non-negotiable necessity for seniors.56 Your policy must include extensive coverage for overseas medical expenses. Crucially, it must cover emergency medical evacuation and repatriation. If you require an ambulance transfer from a riverbank, the costs can be staggering without insurance.

Seasickness is rarely an issue on river cruises, as the waters are generally flat and calm. The ocean yachts are equipped with state-of-the-art stabilisers to ensure a smooth ride.55 If you are prone to motion sickness, preventative medication is available onboard the yachts.55

Strict health protocols remain firmly in place post-pandemic. The ships utilize advanced air circulation systems to ensure fresh air is constantly pumped into cabins.56 Enhanced cleaning protocols target high-traffic areas meticulously.56

Entertainment & Enrichment

The entertainment philosophy on Emerald Cruises is refined and culturally focused. You will not find loud deck parties, belly-flop contests, or sprawling casinos.

The daily programme is designed to feed the curious mind. Daytime enrichment often features fascinating guest speakers. You might attend a lecture detailing the turbulent history of the Berlin Wall. You could learn about the intricate ecosystem of the Mekong Delta.

Interactive classes are highly popular among mature guests. You might join a hands-on cooking demonstration to learn regional recipes.57 Wine tasting sessions offer brilliant introductions to the local viticulture.57 The onboard glass-blowing demonstrations on select European itineraries are truly mesmerising.

Quiet spaces are abundant for those seeking tranquillity. The Horizon Bar & Lounge is the perfect spot for an afternoon crossword puzzle. The Sun Deck offers comfortable loungers for reading while the scenery glides past.

Evening entertainment is delightfully understated. Local performers are frequently invited onboard for special EmeraldPLUS evenings. You might be treated to a stirring performance by a local choir. A traditional brass band might fill the lounge with joyous music.32 On other nights, the resident musician plays gentle melodies on the piano or guitar.35 And of course, the magical transformation of the indoor pool into a cinema is a must-do experience.21

The Social Scene

The boutique size of the ships creates a wonderfully intimate, club-like atmosphere. It is incredibly easy to make new friends, yet entirely possible to find peaceful solitude.

Solo travellers find this cruise line exceptionally welcoming. The crew makes a concerted effort to learn passengers’ names quickly.58 The open-seating policy in the dining room naturally encourages mingling. The Maitre d’ is always delighted to seat solo cruisers at larger hosted tables. You never have to dine alone unless you specifically wish to do so.

Special interest groups often form organically onboard. The active guests bond over morning yoga or guided cycling tours. Foodies connect during the EmeraldPLUS local tasting events.

The dress code is perfectly suited to the laid-back Australian sensibility. Daytime attire is entirely casual. Think comfortable walking shoes, shorts, or light trousers. In the evening, the dress code shifts to “smart casual”.9 For gentlemen, this means long trousers and a collared shirt.9 For ladies, a blouse with trousers or a casual dress is perfect.9 Jackets and ties are absolutely never required.59 There are no strict formal nights, allowing you to pack lighter and travel easier. You may choose to dress up slightly for the Captain’s Welcome and Farewell dinners, but it is not mandatory.9

If you are a shy traveller, participating in the daily trivia quiz is a brilliant icebreaker. Joining a smaller, slower-paced walking tour naturally facilitates easy conversation with fellow guests.

You Should Know

Unwritten social etiquette keeps the ship running harmoniously. It is considered poor form to reserve prime sun loungers with a towel and disappear for hours. Always offer a polite “good morning” to the hardworking crew. Because gratuities are prepaid, slipping cash to bartenders after every drink is unnecessary and unexpected.

Costs & Hidden Extras

Emerald Cruises champions a highly transparent pricing model. The base fare covers the vast majority of your holiday expenses, meaning very few nasty surprises at checkout.

What is truly included:

  • Your stylish stateroom or suite accommodation.
  • All meals in the primary dining venues.
  • Complimentary wine, draft beer, and soft drinks served with lunch and dinner.1
  • All onboard and onshore gratuities and tipping.1
  • Return airport transfers.1
  • A guided shore excursion in almost every port.46
  • Standard Wi-Fi access.1
  • Port charges and taxes.1

What costs extra:

  • DiscoverMORE optional shore excursions.1
  • Treatments in the spa, salon, or wellness centre.1
  • Drinks purchased outside of meal times (unless you hold a beverage package or sail on a yacht).1
  • Speciality dining reservation fees (e.g., the Night Market Grill on the Kaia).40
  • Laundry services (unless included in top-tier suites or loyalty status).31

Typical onboard spending is impressively low. Many guests complete their cruise with a final folio bill close to zero. If you avoid the spa and stick to the included excursions, you will spend very little.

The onboard currency depends entirely on your location. European river ships operate using the Euro (€).10 Ships in Southeast Asia and all ocean yachts use the US Dollar ($).10 When you board, you will register a credit card at reception. All extra purchases are charged to your room account. On the final morning, the balance is seamlessly settled to your registered card.

Loyalty Programs

In a fantastic move for returning guests, Emerald Cruises recently merged its loyalty scheme with its sister brand, Scenic. The new, unified program is called Scenic & Emerald Rewards.60

This streamlined program rewards you for every single day you spend onboard. You earn Status Points based on the length of your trip and the cabin category booked.60 The perks become incredibly valuable for seniors who travel frequently.

  • Gold Tier (Entry Level): You automatically join this tier after completing your first cruise. Benefits include access to pre-release itineraries and exclusive member-only competitions.61
  • Diamond Tier (15,000 Points): Reaching this tier unlocks significant logistical perks. You receive private home-to-airport transfers (limits apply) or a complimentary one-night hotel stay for journeys over 20 days.61
  • Emerald Tier (30,000 Points): This level grants priority onboard booking services. Most importantly, it provides complimentary laundry service (two pieces per day on Emerald), which is a massive bonus on longer trips.61
  • Chairman’s Club (50,000 Points): This elite tier offers unlimited complimentary laundry and exclusive invitations to dine with senior management.61 Members also receive a 25% discount on speciality dining venues like the Night Market Grill.63

The most exciting addition to the program is the MyRewards feature. Members now earn a 1% monetary credit based on the total value of their new bookings.60 This acts as real currency that can be directly applied to reduce the cost of future cruises or land tours.60 MyRewards vouchers remain valid for a generous three years from the date of issue.60

Sample Itineraries

Emerald Cruises curates spectacular routes that appeal deeply to mature travellers. Here are three highly popular options.

Splendours of Europe

  • Route: Amsterdam to Budapest (15 Days).64
  • Season: May through October.
  • Price Indicator:
    (approx. AUD $6,745 – $8,795).
  • Why it Suits Seniors: This is the quintessential grand river cruise. It traverses the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers, crossing five countries. The pacing is brilliantly unhurried. You only unpack your suitcase once, yet you witness the shifting landscapes of Western and Eastern Europe effortlessly.

Sensations of Lyon & Provence

  • Route: Lyon to Nice (8 Days).64
  • Season: April through October.
  • Price Indicator: $$$ (approx. AUD $4,645 – $5,195).
  • Why it Suits Seniors: This culturally rich journey focuses entirely on French gastronomy and history. The itinerary sails the Rhône and Saône rivers. It is perfect for seniors who enjoy relaxed wine tastings, exploring medieval papal palaces, and strolling through fragrant provençal markets.

Caribbean Yachting Hideaways

  • Route: San Juan, Puerto Rico to Antigua (8 Days).35
  • Season: November through March.
  • Price Indicator:
    (approx. AUD $9,830).

Why it Suits Seniors: This itinerary escapes the massive, crowded cruise terminals. The boutique yacht accesses tiny, exclusive island harbours. The pace is incredibly slow and focused on relaxation. It is ideal for seniors seeking winter sunshine, pristine beaches, and elegant ocean-view dining.

Final Verdict

Emerald Cruises delivers a phenomenally well-balanced travel product that hits the sweet spot between premium luxury and excellent value.

Best Suited For:

Active seniors seeking a value-driven, culturally enriching holiday will adore this line. The EmeraldACTIVE options cater perfectly to those who still love a brisk hike or a long bike ride. Solo travellers will find the single supplement waivers and welcoming atmosphere virtually unbeatable. Furthermore, travellers who detest rigid formal dress codes will deeply appreciate the relaxed, smart-casual vibe onboard.

May Not Suit:

Travellers requiring full, unrestricted wheelchair access may struggle with the physical limitations of the river ships, particularly the lack of elevators to the Sun Deck and the potential for side-by-side docking. Those seeking massive theatre productions, vibrant nightclubs, or lively casinos will be disappointed by the quiet, low-key evenings. Finally, families travelling with young children will find no dedicated kids’ clubs or family facilities onboard.

Overall Value Rating:

The value proposition is undeniably outstanding. The inclusion of all gratuities, airport transfers, and daily shore excursions removes massive hidden costs that plague other cruise lines. The hardware is remarkably modern, chic, and impeccably maintained. The crew consistently delivers a premium, highly personalised product at a very competitive mid-tier price point.

For Australian seniors seeking a hassle-free, culturally enriching holiday, this is a spectacular choice. The ships truly feel like intimate boutique hotels gracefully floating through history. Emerald Cruises promises to deliver the “Extraordinary,” and they consistently succeed. 🌍

You might participate in a friendly trivia competition or a lively disco night.36 A resident pianist or guitarist provides the perfect soundtrack for quiet conversations.35

Checked

Sea Days vs Port Days

The pacing differs depending on your chosen itinerary. River cruises are generally highly port-intensive. You will wake up in a new town or city almost every single day. The focus is heavily skewed towards shoreside exploration and guided tours.

Yacht cruises often incorporate beautiful, serene sea days. These days are dedicated entirely to relaxation. You can lounge by the infinity-style Aqua Pool with a good book.16 When the yacht drops anchor, the Marina Platform opens at the stern.35 Guests can swim directly in the ocean or use complimentary paddleboards.35

Shore Excursions & Ports

Emerald Cruises designs their shore excursions to deliver profound cultural connections. Discovery is woven into the very fabric of the itinerary.

At least one shore excursion is included in almost every single port.46 These included tours are expertly guided and thoughtfully paced. You will use personal audio headsets to hear the guide clearly without huddling closely.47

The excursion programme is divided into several distinct categories:

  • EmeraldPLUS: These are included experiences that take you deep into local life. You might enjoy a rural Portuguese dinner at the famous Quinta da Pacheca estate.19 You could visit KOTO in Hanoi, a unique restaurant supporting disadvantaged youth.19 These rare encounters are the highlight of many seniors’ holidays.
  • EmeraldACTIVE: These included tours cater to guests with higher stamina. You can join a guided hike up to the Veste Oberhaus fortress in Germany.36 You might embark on a 23-mile cycling tour through Austria’s stunning Wachau Valley.48
  • DiscoverMORE: These are entirely optional, extra-cost excursions. They provide deeper dives into specific regional highlights. Prices vary widely depending on the activity. A walking tour of Linz with a traditional torte tasting costs around AUD $97.49 A full-day excursion to Salzburg costs approximately AUD $132.49 An exclusive classical evening concert in Vienna costs around AUD $132.49

Tour classifications ensure you choose activities suited to your fitness. The daily program clearly outlines the physical expectations of each excursion. When a walking tour is offered, the guides always designate a slower-paced group.31

Independent touring is incredibly easy, especially on river cruises. The ships often dock right in the very centre of historic towns.50 You can simply stroll off the gangway and begin exploring immediately.

Port accessibility challenges must be considered carefully. Historic European towns are famous for uneven cobblestones and steep, narrow alleys.31 Furthermore, river ships frequently “raft” or dock side-by-side during busy periods.14 To disembark, you may need to walk across the Sun Deck of an adjacent vessel.14 This involves climbing stairs, which can be difficult for those with mobility aids.

Checked

Travel Tip

While the included tours are brilliant, you might occasionally want a private experience. If you decide to book third-party tours independently, always use reputable platforms. Australian seniors frequently rely on Viator or GetYourGuide for private driver tours. Always ensure the operator guarantees returning you to the ship well before departure time.

Ships & Accommodation

Your ship serves as your luxurious floating home for the duration of the journey. Emerald Cruises operates two distinct styles of vessels to suit different waterways.

Fleet Overview

The fleet is divided into river Star-Ships and ocean-going luxury yachts.

The European Star-Ships are celebrated for their sleek, contemporary design. They carry between 112 and 180 passengers, ensuring an intimate atmosphere.7 Ships sailing the Rhine, Main, and Danube are nearly identical in layout. The Emerald Radiance is custom-built specifically for Portugal’s Douro River.7 The Emerald Liberté is tailored to navigate the rivers of France.7 In Southeast Asia, the Emerald Harmony sails the Mekong with just 84 guests.7

The ocean yacht fleet is experiencing rapid, exciting expansion. The Emerald Azzurra and Emerald Sakara currently sail the seas with 100 guests.2 These vessels are designed to access tiny, exclusive harbours that mega-ships cannot reach. The next generation of superyachts will be slightly larger. The Emerald Kaia launches in 2026, accommodating 128 guests.2 The Emerald Raiya and Emerald Xara will follow in 2027.2 These new yachts will feature expanded wellness spaces and new dining venues.27

Seniors absolutely love the scale of both the river and ocean ships. The vessels are large enough to offer diverse amenities and spacious lounges. Yet, they are small enough to foster a genuinely friendly, club-like community.

Cabin Categories

Accommodation across the fleet is modern, bright, and wonderfully comfortable.

The entry-level option is the Emerald Stateroom. These cabins sit on the lowest deck and feature a large picture window.15 They provide excellent value while still offering luxury ESPA toiletries and plush bedding.15

The most popular choice is the Emerald Panorama Balcony Suite. This category features an innovative indoor balcony decking area. A floor-to-ceiling window drops down electronically at the push of a button.15 This brilliant design lets you enjoy fresh air regardless of the weather.

For those seeking ultimate indulgence, the Owner’s One-Bedroom Suites are spectacular. They boast between 285 and 315 square feet of space on river ships.15 These suites feature a separate living room, a bedroom, and a walk-in wardrobe.15 On the yachts, the Owner’s Suites offer massive private outdoor terraces for lounging.28

Solo cabins are available but incredibly scarce. Select European Star-Ships feature just two Category ES Single Staterooms.15 These are purpose-built for one person and sell out extremely quickly.

Wheelchair-accessible cabins are unfortunately a weak point for the brand. The ships are not purpose-built to be fully ADA-compliant.14 The cruise line does not guarantee roll-in showers or widened doorways.14 Standard cabin bathrooms feature significant raised thresholds which pose tripping hazards.13

Ship Facilities

Understanding the physical layout of the ships is vital for mature travellers.

Elevator coverage varies significantly depending on the vessel type. On the luxury ocean yachts, elevators service all passenger decks.14 Navigating the yachts is generally quite manageable for those using walking aids. However, the European river Star-Ships present distinct mobility challenges. Elevators service three of the four decks. The top-level Sun Deck is only accessible via stairs.13 The Emerald Harmony on the Mekong has no elevator available at all.13

Medical facilities also differ drastically between the rivers and the oceans. European river ships do not have a doctor or a medical centre onboard.29 They carry basic first-aid equipment only.14 Because they sail close to shore, emergencies are handled by local land-based hospitals. Conversely, the ocean yachts venture into remote coastal waters. Therefore, the yachts are equipped with a dedicated medical centre.30

Storage for mobility aids requires advance planning. Guests using wheelchairs must bring collapsible models.31 Cabin doors and corridors can be narrow. Motorised scooters are generally not suitable for river cruising environments.
