Is Your Pet Trying to Tell You Something? Dog Destroys Owner’s Passport Before International Trip—Social Media Can’t Stop Talking!

We all know that pets have a knack for getting into mischief at the most inconvenient times, but one US woman’s recent travel disaster has taken the internet by storm—and left fellow travellers and dog lovers in stitches.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your furry friend is secretly plotting to keep you at home, this story might just convince you!

Karina, a teacher and avid traveller, was all set for her next big adventure. Bags packed, itinerary sorted, and excitement in the air, until her dog, Kanela, decided to add a little chaos to the mix.

In a now-viral social media video, Karina holds up her passport, or rather, what’s left of it: a collection of chewed-up pages and bite marks that would make any customs officer faint.

The video captures Karina’s rollercoaster of emotions: disbelief, exasperation, and, ultimately, a tired sense of humour that many pet owners will recognise. Holding up the mangled remains of her passport, she recounts the moment she realised what had happened.

‘I have a flight today. Bags are packed. And this is what my dog decided to do. Last time when I got in the room, [I was] like, Oh! What have you done, Kanella? And, she was just wagging herself,’ she said.

Karina’s story takes a funny twist as she reflects on her years as a teacher. ‘As a teacher, I’ve had students tell me, “Oh, my dog ate my homework.” And I’ve always responded with, “Give me something better to work with.” They might have been telling the truth,’ she admits, finally giving some long-overdue credit to her students’ canine alibis.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. Karina’s bags were packed, her itinerary set, and her excitement for the trip was palpable. But Kanela, in a move that would make any prankster proud, chose that very moment to turn her passport into a chew toy.

‘She is a smart dog. Baby, had it been this way, Oh, back to the streets you go,’ Karina jokes, adding that Kanela seemed almost proud of her handiwork.

But the real kicker? The passport wasn’t just a travel document—it was a treasure trove of memories. Karina explains that it held her first visa from when she moved to China, as well as stamps from Greece, Myanmar, and South Korea.

‘I’m still sad about this one because it’s so many memories,’ she confesses, highlighting how travel documents can become sentimental keepsakes over the years.

As for Kanela, the canine culprit, she seemed blissfully unaware of the chaos she’d caused. In the video, Karina jokingly asks her dog if she feels any remorse, only for Kanela to place a paw on the damaged passport—perhaps her own way of saying, ‘I’d do it again!’

Luckily, Karina had a backup passport (a rare stroke of luck!), but she warns fellow travellers that even this doesn’t solve everything. In her post, she advises: ‘If your travel is urgent, ask for an emergency passport so you can still leave the country. Once back home (or settled), you can replace it with a full-validity passport.’

She continued: ‘Even if you have a second passport like me, you still have to report the damaged one. They don’t play [with] their documents! Save this for future travels, and keep your dog away from international paperwork. Trust me.’ You can watch her video via this link.

Karina’s story is a light-hearted reminder that, no matter how much we plan, life (and our pets) can throw us a curveball. It’s always wise to have a backup plan, and maybe a backup passport, if you can swing it!
